    Dear Friends,
      We celebrate the end our religious school year with our Zoom Shabbat Evening Family Service and Confirmation (7:30 PM).
       Mazal tov to our graduating Confirmands: Hannah Jacobowitz, Aaron Jacobowitz, Jordana Marcus and Robby Slater.
       I am always enormously proud of our teens, and their commitment to the congregation and heritage, and never more so than during this challenging year.  
       After hearing their reflections at the service, I am sure you will agree with me.

       Our final school session will be held on Sunday (9:00 AM), again outdoors, weather permitting . 
        This is an appropriate time to thank students, parents, teachers, the religious education committee, our director Shira and our cantor Iris. 
         The way everyone pulled together to flourish during this pandemic year was inspirational.

    Dear Friends,
      We will feature special music and reflections on the upcoming holiday of Shavuot at  our  Livestream Shabbat Evening Service (7:30 PM).
       Given the tragic violence in Israel this week, we will also raise up our prayers for peace.
       
        At our Zoom Shabbat Morning Service (10:00 AM), we celebrate the bar mitzvah of Owen Beckerman. Mazal tov to Owen and his family!

         Weather permitting, Sunday morning religious school classes will meet in and around the garden, while Confirmation class (11:00) will meet via Zoom.

        Then on Sunday afternoon our first-ever Zoom Shavuot Cooking Class (2:00 PM) promises some fabulous dairy dishes.

         Finally, a Shavuot evening screening of highlights from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat by our very own religious school students (5:00 PM) will usher in the holiday.

    Dear Friends,
       In the wake of the recent tragedy in Israel, and in honor of Jerusalem Day on Monday, this is an appropriate time to talk about a deep challenge facing Israeli democracy, with resonance to our country as well. I'll do so at our  Livestream Shabbat Evening Service (7:30 PM)
       
        At our Zoom Shabbat Morning Torah Study  (10:00 AM), our final session for this school year, we will also look at societal challenges that our ancestors faced and which never seem to go away.

       At our bimonthly Zoom Adas Emuno Book Club on Monday (7:30 PM) join us for a discussion of life on the Lower East Side of NY (“Up from Orchard Street”).

        And mark your calendar now: next Sunday, May 16:

          2. Shavuot screening of Joseph by our religious school students (5:00 PM)

    Dear Friends,
      Tomorrow is the minor Jewish holiday of Lag B'omer , which is actually a big picnic and bonfire day in Israel.
       At this time of the year Israel also awards its highest civilian honor- the Israel Prize.

        At our Zoom Shabbat Evening Service (7:30 PM) Virginia Gitter will make a presentation about the remarkable women who won this year's Israel prize.
       
        At our Zoom Shabbat Morning Torah Study (10:00 AM) we'll continue our look at the famous teachings of the Torah: "Do not bear a grudge. Do not stand idly by. Love your neighbor as yourself."

       It's time for our Zoom Shabbat Evening Family Service (7:30 PM).
       Led by our youngest K-3 students, you know this is going to be fun!

        At our Zoom Shabbat Morning Torah Study (10:00 AM) we'll look at the famous teachings of the Torah: "Do not bear a grudge. Do not stand idly by. Love your neighbor as yourself."

         On Sunday our school program will also include an in-person, outdoors Tot program for preschoolers (9:30- 10:30 AM). If you know any tots who would like this do tell us.

  • Volunteers Wanted!

    Hello All!

    We were sent an SOS from Family Promise, asking us to cook for the folks living at the shelter in Hackensack, as we've done for many years.  The difference is that these same folks were moved to hotels during the pandemic so we will not need servers this time.. but we will need lots of cooks!

    Adas Emuno is signed up for THURSDAY, MAY 27th and we will be cooking for 150 people.  We deliver the food in pans to the shelter where volunteers divide everything into separate containers and deliver the dinners.

    We could really use your help! If you cook but can't deliver your tray of food to the shelter, no worries!  We'll call in our own "A.E. Pick Up & Delivery Service" team, curbside, if you'd like!

    If you are willing to join our team of cooks, please email  Annette by May 1 so she can coordinate all volunteers.  Details of the EASY MENU will then follow.

    Dear Friends,
      Today is Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Commemoration Day.
     
      At our Livestream Shabbat Evening Service (7:30 PM), Student Cantor Karlin, accompanied by Beth Robin, will bring us moving music related to this day, and to the great legacy of German Jewish composing.

      I'll reflect on recent efforts to educate the new generation about the past (which I will put into practice at Confirmation Class on Sunday).

       At our Zoom Shabbat Morning Torah Study  (10:00 AM) we will look at a quality that, according to the Torah and Rashi commentary, is necessary in our leaders, but in short supply today: humility.
