Dear Friends,
There have been few times over my four decades as a rabbi that my own views seemed to differ from that of the majority of the congregation... but now is apparently one of them.
I'll explore this further, as regards the war with Iran, at our Shabbat Evening Service (7:30 PM).

The history of Israel we are studying at our Shabbat Morning Torah Study (10:00 AM) is all too relevant to understanding the present. We'll examine the continuing failures of the peace process in the 80's and 90's and their consequences to this day.

Pesach is only a few weeks away, and attending our Second Night Seder (April 2) is sure to enrich your holiday. See the flyer sent last week and contact Virginia Gitter, vegitter@aol.com to register.

Dear Friends,
With America and Israel again striking Iran, our prayers are with the people of Israel and the US military.
We will have an open (and off-line) discussion of events following our Shabbat Evening Service (7:30 PM).
Our service will be enhanced with the percussion, strumming and vocals of Scott Dennis- which I know will lift our spirits.

The Islamic Revolution in Iran occurred in Feb. of 1979, and the signing of the famous peace treaty between Israel and Egypt took place one month later.
That's where we pick up our history of modern Israel at our Shabbat Morning Torah Study (10:00 AM).

Our Adas Emuno Book Club meets on Monday (7:30 PM) via Zoom and discusses writer Dara Horn's provocative take on antisemitism...certainly a timely topic.

Don't forget to spring forward on Saturday night.

Dear Friends,
It's an all-Purim weekend!

Join our "pop-up Purim choir" at our Shabbat Evening Service (7:30 PM) in festive singing and learn some fun-facts about the holiday.

Just who is Mordecai and what is his agenda? At a special Shabbat Morning Torah Study (10:00 AM) we'll cast a spotlight on this man of mystery.

All ages are welcome to our Purim Celebration on Sunday, with our very spirited Megillah Reading (10:00 AM), that includes plenty of songs and a rabbi-original comedy routine!

Festivities conclude with our Carnival (11:00 AM) for our students- it may be a throwback, low-tech affair, but it is old-fashioned fun!

Dear Friends,
"If you build it, they will come" might be the motto of this week's Torah portion.
I'll explain as we read from the scroll at our Shabbat Evening Service (7:30 PM).

No sooner did Israel experience one political earthquake in 1977- the election of Menachem Begin, then another happened- the visit of Anwar Sadat.
I was a college student in Jerusalem that year, witnessing history firsthand- which we'll explore at our Shabbat Morning Torah Study (10:00 AM).

Mark you calendars now for the next two Jewish holidays:
Purim Celebration: Sunday, March 1 (10:00 AM).
Pesach Second Night Congregational Seder, Thursday, April 2 (5:00 PM)- details forthcoming.

We welcome you to our Reform Community Scholar-in-Residence Weekend, with Israeli Reform Rabbi Golan Ben-Chorin.
The weekend kicks off here at our Shabbat Evening Service (7:00 PM- note earlier time).
We continue at Temple Sinai with Shabbat Morning Torah Study (9:30 AM), Service (11:00), Lunch (12:30).
We conclude at Temple Emeth with Sunday Morning Bagel Brunch (10:00 AM) and Discussion (11:00 AM)

I know you will find this to be a compelling discussion of Israel- present and future.

Dear Friends,
The week before last the body of Ran Gvili, the last hostage held in Gaza, was returned to Israel...and the nation was overcome with emotion.
Moments like this are difficult for outsiders to fully grasp, but I'll try to explain why, with the help of our Torah portion, at our Shabbat Evening Service (7:30 PM).

How Israel persevered after the trauma of the Yom Kippur War is the subject of our Shabbat Morning Torah Study (10:00 AM).

Don't forget to bring in your cans of soup by Sunday, as we wrap up our Souper Bowl before the Super Bowl.

At our Adas Emuno Film Club on Monday (7:30 PM), we'll discuss two Jewish comedies that most people either love or hate: Bad Shabbos, and Nobody Wants This (Season Two). Tune in with your opinion—the Zoom link is in the Rabbi’s message of Feb. 5.

A big weekend ahead...and hopefully no snow!

This is Shabbat Shira (Sabbath of Song) and our full bimah band will play.
It's also Volunteer Shabbat, and you will be honored in words, music and an extra-special oneg.
All this at our Shabbat Evening Service (7:00 PM- note earlier time).

Luca Malka-Edelsburg will become a bar-mitzvah at our Shabbat Morning Service (10:00 AM).
Mazal tov to Luca and his family!

Our Seder Tu Bishvat will take place on Sunday (11:00 AM).
We celebrate the Birthday of the Trees with special fruits, drinks, songs and stories.

Dear Friends,
One of Israel's great archeologists, Gabriel Barkay, passed away last week.
He was friendly with my in-laws, and we brought him to speak at Adas Emuno years ago.
I'll offer a tribute to him, and tell the dramatic story of his most famous find, at our Shabbat Evening Service (7:30 PM).

Only six years after the Six Day War, Israel found itself in dire straits, as it fought for its life during the Yom Kippur War of 1973.
That is the topic of our Shabbat Morning Torah Study (10:00 AM).

Reminders:
1. Calling all volunteers- next week is Volunteer Shabbat, (7:00 PM) and you will be honored with special words and music. It’s also Shabbat Shirah, and our Bimah Band will play!
2. Calling all tree-lovers: next week is also Tu Bishvat, and our annual Seder Tu Bishvat is on Sunday, Feb. 1 (11:00 AM)- adults and students together!

What would Martin Luther King Jr. say... about what is happening in our country right now?
We'll consider this and celebrate his legacy in words and music (our talented percussionist Scott Dennis will join us), at our Shabbat Evening Service (7:30 PM).

It has been said that the Six Day War was both a great blessing, and curse, for Israel. We'll look at the huge implications of that event for Jews everywhere (and to this day) at our Shabbat Morning Torah Study (10:00AM).
