Dear Friends,
It's always fascinating for me to discover a remote Jewish community on my travels, from the northernmost synagogue in the world (Trondheim, Norway) to the southernmost (Dunedin, New Zealand) to the oldest in the diaspora (Elephantine Island, Egypt).
My latest trip was no exception. The synagogue is one the oldest in Europe and is housed adjacent to a famed Roman ruin. Can you guess where it is (hint-not Italy but somewhere along the Adriatic coast)?
I talk about my visit at our Shabbat Evening Service (7:30 PM).
Note that next week, July 8, we will honor Student Cantor Iris Karlin for her two years of exceptional service. Iris will be joined on the bimah by our new Student Cantor Joe Flaxman, Elka Oliver, Beth Robbin, and Peter Hayes. A special outdoor oneg will be served.
Wishing you a Happy 4th of July weekend.
Shabbat shalom,
Rabbi Schwartz
